Belt drive conversion, Yamaha XJR 1200 4PU (1995–1998) & Yamaha XJR 1300 RP02 (1999–2001)
If lubricating a chain has always been a chore, if you keep forgetting it or are tired of constantly cleaning chain grease off your wheel and motorcycle, I can warmly recommend a belt drive conversion. The conversion not only gives you a clean final drive, but also noticeably improves the riding feel.
The major advantage over a chain is absolutely no play in the drivetrain: no snatch when going on or off the throttle, no jerking – just smooth riding. Gear changes become considerably smoother, because the absence of drivetrain play lets the gears engage more cleanly.
Fits
- Yamaha XJR 1200 4PU (1995–1998)
- Yamaha XJR 1300 RP02 (1999–2001)
Benefits
- Absolutely no play in the drivetrain
- No throttle-transition snatch / no jerking
- Smoother, more consistent gear changes
- Improved smoothness and power transmission
- Low maintenance compared with a chain
- No wheel contamination from lubricant (no chain lubrication)
- Typical belt life approximately 40,000–60,000 km (depending on use)
TÜV & registration entry
With a TÜV parts certificate for straightforward registration approval (a registration entry is required in Germany).
Finish & options
The rear pulley's standard finish is titanium-coloured hard coating, providing a very hard, resistant surface for a long service life.
Some photos show painted rear pulleys and polished guide flanges. These are not standard and are only available at extra cost. If required, please enquire by email with exact colour details.
Conversion notes
- The rear brake caliper carrier and front sprocket cover need modifying for the conversion.
- If these parts are sent in beforehand, we machine them free of charge, making the conversion considerably easier.
I am happy to answer further questions about the conversion personally. Please be sure to state the exact motorcycle model when ordering.
